A new case for 2007 features West Platte
School uniforms, and items from Weston's
early school days.
Founded in October 1960, the Weston Historical Museum holds several lifetimes of family
paraphernalia. From clothing to toys, from tools to music, the Museum highlights the things which filled
the lives of Weston’s early-day settlers.
Weston’s rich tobacco heritage is explored through a scaled tobacco barn and examples of the old way
of harvesting. Weston’s original cash crop of hemp is revealed through samples and pictures.
Steamboats, trains and carriages are all represented in some form at the Museum. A working hand
press and type cases from the early days of journalism are on display, as is a vintage barber chair and
accoutrements to support every display. Maps, photos and artifacts create a venue which exudes
history.
For genealogists, clippings and photographs of families, businesses and houses are stored at the
Museum. There are also several binders filled with obituaries dating back into the late 1800’s.
Cemetery records for most of the county, as well as some plats, census records and Weston/West
Platte High School yearbooks are on hand.
The Museum is closed Monday to visitors, but volunteers are usually there working at cataloguing
donations, preserving artifacts and doing research.
From mid-December to mid-March the Museum is closed so that the curator, officers, directors and
volunteers can work at updating displays, repair and renovations.
